Virtual Services, Inc (VSI) has successfully completed testing in the Collin County Community College Convergence Lab

DALLAS -- April 13, 2004 -- Virtual Services, Inc., a provider of custom and packaged software solutions, announced today that it subjected its Personal Transaction Agent client software and its Redundant Reliable Transaction System server software to four weeks of rigorous testing in the Convergence Lab. VSI’s two programs combine to form an exceptionally secure Internet-based transaction system that assures both parties involved in a transaction get what they are promised.

The Convergence Lab test schedule included one week to test the system’s ease-of–use, one week to focus on edge testing, and two weeks of testing focused on attacking the system. System functionality was tested throughout the testing schedule, as fixes and new features were implemented.

Throughout the testing period, VSI responded to feedback from the users to implement ideas enhancing and improving the programs. One such instance of this was the total redesign of the Personal Transaction Agent user interface. During the third week of testing, the new wizard-based interface was unveiled. “We had a tight schedule to develop a new client application interface,” said Michael Straub, president, VSI. “But in less than three weeks, my team developed and tested the new program and rolled it out to the Convergence Lab.”

Convergence Lab students were also impressed with the new client. “Transactions and accounts were created successfully and fast. There was no time lag at all,” commented one student. Another student said the system was “Very easy to use, pretty much straight forward.”

During the last two weeks of testing, the students attempted to hack the system, with the promise of prizes to anyone who succeeded. To aid them in their hacking efforts, VSI provided packet sniffing and port scanning tools as well as instruction on their use. The students were also encouraged to download other tools from hacker sites on the Internet.

VSI raised the stakes on the fourth and final week of testing. VSI gave the students a more in-depth description of the system and some of the security features. This additional knowledge allowed the students to simulate disgruntled employees attempting to attack the system.

The students were not able to penetrate the systems. Tom Jones, director of the Convergence Lab stated “The level of encryption and creative use of non-standard ports make it very unlikely that the connection could be compromised. I would place a high degree of confidence in Virtual Services’ Redundant Reliable Transaction System.”
